In this introductory course, you will learn about Creighton's diverse English Learner population and strategies classroom teachers can use to support all English Learners through the five stages of language development.

In this course, you will learn about the unique nature of planning for Structured English Immersion (SEI), also known as English Language Development (ELD), in Arizona. This course is specifically designed for SEI and SEI Mixed Classroom teachers.

This course is related to the Danielson Framework for Teaching (DFFT), Component 1c- Setting Instructional Outcomes and Component 4f- Showing Professionalism.


In this course, you will learn specific instructional strategies used throughout Arizona and the Creighton School District  designed to support English Learners. This course is specifically designed for SEI and SEI Mixed Classroom teachers.

This course provides basic information about Arizona's English Language Learner Assessment (AZELLA) and shares teacher and student preparation resources. At the end of this course, educators will be able to:

  • explain the AZELLA format and scoring system, and
  • identify and locate appropriate resources to help prepare students.
